Important Questions to Ask Before You Hire a Nassau Count Roofer
Perhaps your roof has unexpectedly sprung a leak, maybe a few shingles have blown off in a storm, or perhaps your gutters are filled with granules from your shingles; whatever the case may be, if you’re in need of a roofer, you want to be certain that you choose the most reliable contractor. It isn’t hard to find a roofer in Nassau County; just do a quick search for “roof repair near me” or “roofers near me” and there’s no doubt that you’ll find a long list of companies. After visiting the websites of a few roofers who have piqued your attention, give them a call and ask a few questions.
Here are a few examples of some important questions to ask, the answers to which will help you determine which roofer will best suit your specific needs.
Are you licensed and insured?
In order to perform services in Nassau County, a roofing company needs to be licensed and insured. Roof repair and installation is a complex process and needs to be done properly. Licensing ensures that a roofer has received the training that’s necessary to correctly detect and correct any roofing problems that you may be having. Insurance protects you, the client, from any potential issues that may arise while a roofer is working on your Farmingdale, NY home; for example, if the roofer damages your property or slips, falls, and sustains an injury, instead of having to pay for the related costs yourself, the roof service’s insurer will cover them.
Ask any roofing companies near you that you’re considering hiring if they’re licensed and insured and if they can provide you with proof. Any reputable contractor will happily share this information with you. Be sure to confirm that both are valid.
Will you bring a container for refuse?
As your roof is repaired or replaced, the materials, such as old shingles, underlayment, and flashing, will need to be placed in a bin. A reputable Nassau County roofing company will supply the container and will haul it away when they’re finished. Before you hire a roofer, however, don’t just assume that they’ll supply the bin and will remove the waste from your Farmingdale, NY property, because not all companies do. Be sure to ask beforehand, otherwise, you could end up in a pickle and may end up having to rent a container yourself, which will only add to the cost of the project.
How long have you been in business?
Though a new roofing company could certainly provide quality results, if you want peace of mind, it’s better to hire a company that’s been around for a while. Properly repairing and installing roofing materials requires a lot of skill and expertise. The longer a roofer has been in business, the more experience they’ll have, which translates to more skill and expertise and better results.
Do you offer a warranty?
Even the most credible and experienced roofing contractor can make mistakes; for instance, they could unknowingly use faulty materials or make a mistake while they’re repairing your roof. That’s why a warranty is so important. In the event that something does go wrong and your roof fails, as long as it’s backed by a warranty, the roofing company will make the necessary repairs free of charge. It’s important to note, however, that warranties do vary, so in addition to asking if a Nassau County roof service offers a warranty, find out what the warranty entails, including what it will cover and what it entails.

Farmingdale is an incorporated village on Long Island within the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 8,189 as of the 2010 Census.
The first European settler in the area was Thomas Powell, who arrived in 1687. On October 18, 1695, he purchased a 15-square-mile (39 km2) tract of land from three Native American tribes. This is known as the Bethpage Purchase and includes what is now Farmingdale, as well as Bethpage, Melville, North Massapequa, Old Bethpage, Plainedge, and Plainview. One of two houses he built in the area (circa 1738) still stands on Merritts Road in Farmingdale.
In the 1830s, anticipating construction of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), land developer Ambrose George purchased a large tract of land between a community then known as Bethpage and an area in Suffolk County known as Hardscrabble. He built a general store in the western part of this property which he named Farmingdale. When the LIRR started service to the area in October 1841,it used the name Farmingdale for its latest stop, here, on the line it was building to Greenport. Stagecoaches took people from the Farmingdale station to Islip, Babylon, Patchogue, Oyster Bay South, and West Neck (Huntington area).
In 1886 a fire department was organized. The of Farmingdale was incorporated in 1904. In 1912, the State Agricultural and Technical school was established. The Lenox Hills Country Club, an 18-hole private golf course designed by Devereux Emmet, was developed north of the community in 1923 and was owned and operated by Benjamin F. Yoakum. This golf course was purchased by the State of New York, was greatly expanded, and then re-opened as Bethpage State Park in 1932, with much of the golf design work carried out by golf architect A.W. Tillinghast, later inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. The original 1920s era Lenox Hills subdivision and later adjacent subdivisions, located between the Bethpage State Park golf courses and the Long Island Railroad trackage, encompassing rolling hills and a wide boulevard, are known as the more upscale part of Farmingdale Village. Later, Farmingdale became a locus for the aircraft industry, notably Republic Aviation Company.
